GST 'will not stop' online shopping

Closing the GST loophole on offshore purchases would have little effect on Australia's retail sector, economists say.
And it would not stem the tide of shoppers jumping online, they say.
As the high-profile push by some of the country's biggest traders to impose GST and duty on all imports continued to generate controversy yesterday, industry watchers said they believed such a move would be largely fruitless.
