Flying under a false name to be a crime in Australia

Traveling by air under a false name will soon be a crime in a new legislative package designed to "ensure that Commonwealth criminal law remains up-to-date and effective," Attorney-General Nicolo Roxon told parliament on Wednesday.
The bill will make it a crime to use a fake identity to book a flight over the internet, identify oneself for a flight, or to take a commercial flight. The change is aimed at organised criminals, who commonly travel under false names.
The package also includes measures allowing illicit drugs to be listed by regulation, and making it a crime to use a carraige service to obtain identity information with the intention of committing another offence. The Commonwealth's penalty unit scheme will also be increased, raising the value of a single unit from $110 to $170 - a move that Ms Roxon says will "send a strong message that crime does not pay."
