The consumer watchdog has been flooded with complaints about the carbon tax since its July 1 introduction.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it has received 2500 complaints and enquiries about the controversial tax, introduced 100 days ago.
The refrigerants and airconditioning industry received a high number of complaints, with consumers dobbing in providers who allegedly made false statements about the impact of the carbon levy on gas prices.
The ACCC has conducted 50 initial and 15 in-depth investigations, and issued over
40 formal and informal warning letters to providers in various sectors. More than
50 letters were sent to traders providing guidance on carbon price claims.
