High court delays deportation of asylum seekers to Malaysia

Justice Hayne has granted an injunction delaying the deportation of asylum seekers to Malaysia as a part of Australia's refugee swap deal.
The injunction has been granted to allow an application to be heard in Canberra on Monday 8 August. The action was commenced by David Manne of the Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre and will be based upon Malaysia's poor human rights record and the fact that a number of the asylum seekers are unaccompanied minors.
Mr Manne stated:
There's a real concern here that any move to expel these unaccompanied minors could involve the minister abandoning his obligations and responsibilities to these unaccompanied children that he has to care for them and to ensure that their welfare is looked after at all times.
