Passengers on cruise ships passing through West Australian waters will now be able to gamble on board after the state government lifted a ban on casino gaming at sea.
An agreement with the operators of Perth's Burswood Casino to lift a longstanding prohibition on casino gaming on cruise ships in WA waters.
Under the previous Casino Agreement, cruise ships were required to close down their casino when they entered WA waters.
The restriction was meant to prevent "cruises to nowhere" in which vessels would sail beyond Rottnest Island to conduct gaming for two to three days to avoid WA's tough stance on gaming.
Gaming machines in WA are not allowed in pubs and clubs.
