ACCC Cracking down on Cafes Flouting Public Holiday Laws

Tuesday 14 September 2010 @ 11.05 a.m. | Trade & Commerce

The ACCC has begun cracking down on 4 Sydney restaurants who have failed to mention their extra public holiday or Sunday surcharges.

Changes implemented last May mean eateries that charge more for Sunday or public holiday service are required to print separate menus. This is a result of the continuing changes to the Trade Practices Act.

Is this a usual practice in restaurant culture? An unnecessary use of regulator time? Or do you think that it is only fair that breaches of the new component pricing law are pursued under the changes to the Trade Practices Act?
